"Be back soon" was interpreted liberally

Since my last blog post a year ago, I've gotten married, completed my wife's green card application, moved to a new home, welcomed my wife to the US, and am now expecting our first child on the badass date of 12/12/12. That gives the child roughly 9 days until the Mayan Doomsday, but hey, I'll take whatever I can get.

The main thrust of today's post is around being a badass gentleman with a family. Can it be done? I believe so. Do I have any idea what I'm talking about? Afraid not. Having a child completely changes a number of pre-existing assumptions around life and priorities, and I think many people only fully comprehend these changes ex-post. That being said, I'm still going to lay out how I'm approaching this.

It's all about time, and freeing up as much time as you can in a sustainable way. Quitting your job with no other source of income would not be sustainable for the vast majority. So energy needs to be dedicated towards generating freedom, which in my mind means dramatically increasing your $s earned per hour worked, and removing any mobility constraints (work from anywhere).

The need to free up time and generate more income is clear. With more time, you can spend more time with the family, and with more income, you can buy additional time (e.g., housecleaners, catered meals, assistants, etc.). At the end of the day, time and freedom are the most precious assets we possess in life. This is a fact that's often lost in a world where people spend their freedom choosing which TV series to follow, and their time consuming massive amounts of content with little relevance to their day-to-day lives. A badass gentleman would be wise to cherish and respect his time and freedom.
