There are some that might think the title of this post is a paradox. Badassery is typically associated with a lone ranger who kicks tail, takes names, and moves on. Doesn't a baby negate all of that reckless mobility? So how does one reconcile the responsibility of fatherhood with being badass?
Simple. You just do it. The least badass thing to do as a dad is to use your child as an excuse for not pursuing your dreams. There's nothing preventing you from being an amazing father and one that accomplishes great things outside of the family. There's everything wrong with a dad that uses their children as an excuse for putting their dreams aside and continuing to run the same rat race.
Don't get me wrong. Participating actively in my wife's delivery, being there for every second of it, and seeing the result (a kick-ass and truly sweet kid), is amazing beyond words. It doesn't even matter how many times this miracle has been repeated by humankind, it feels immensely special regardless. And although life has changed tremendously (something I feel in my bones now, whereas I couldn't before seeing my kid), it doesn't change the fact that I'm meant to be a Badass Gentleman, and to hopefully inspire others in that pursuit.
Modified Goal: Be a Badass Gentleman AND Be a Badass Dad.
WOOT! Congrats! I'm so happy for you! Please give your baby and your wife a kick-ass high-5 for me :)
